The original Pride flag debuted in 1978 and features the six rainbow stripes many people still display today. There have been many variations of the Pride flag introduced since then but only one is known as the Philadelphia Pride Flag. It was introduced in 2017 by Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs in partnership with the design agency Tierney. The design includes the traditional Pride flag but adds black and brown stripes to represent experiences of LGBTQIA people of color in Philadelphia.

We think the Philly Pride flag makes an appropriate and inclusive pairing with the Liberty Bell, another iconic symbol of the values of our city.
